Overview

This acclaimed concept for a Saudi Arabian embassy reflects a contemporary Islamic aesthetic, whilst being inspired by the rich natural context of Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Enchantingly protruding out of its natural context, the design draws volumetric inspiration from the mysterious pyramids of the Visoko Valley and Dinaric Mountains surrounding the city.

Location

This competition entry aimed to distil the cultural heritage of Saudi Arabia and interpret its Islamic character with a contemporary and functional design, whilst considering the appropriateness of the proposal within the host country.

Perspectives

The landmark proposal is designed boldly to reflect the growing ties between Saudi Arabia and the host country, and enchants its visitors with its interplay of shadows and light across a dynamic backdrop of form and space.

Concept

The spatial programming evolved by critically understanding the specific schedule of accommodation set out by the competition, and a contemporary Moucharabya becomes an adaptable element increasing privacy and security to the design.
